Fran Tonkiss is an urban sociologist, based at the London School of Economics (LSE). Her work explores the social contexts and impacts of spatial design, and her books include Space, The City and Social Theory, Cities by Design and Urban Inequalities (forthcoming). Her key concern is how urban design might tackle social and spatial inequalities, rather than building them deeper into cities.
